Traction And Handling For Classic Mustangs From Cobra Automotive

Put all of your power to the ground instead of losing it in the chassis and suspension with these upgraded performance traction bars for your Mustang. Check out our blog for more info.

Early Mustangs have used over-ride traction bars for years, starting with the 1965 GT350’s. During hard driving, however, your early Mustang may experience “wheel-hop” when you combine down-shifting with hard braking. That condition can get very dangerous in a turn, because it may cause a complete loss of rear wheel control.

These spring-loaded rods from Cobra Automotive have a 900 pound-rated compression spring that dampens deceleration wheel-hop while their rod-end mounting points actually let the body “roll” during cornering to create a more neutral feel while not affecting the roll center of the car.

The spring’s preload is adjustable, and additional spring rates are available for full tuneability. The rods are available as a direct replacement for your early Shelby, or as a complete kit with all brackets and hardware, for your Mustang. They’re made from aircraft aluminum, and offer a huge improvement over the stock steel Shelby bars that used rubber bushings and had no dampening springs.

Cobra Automotive specializes in a full range of specialty parts and high performance components for all ’65-’70 Mustangs and Shelbys. Cobra Automotive, Inc., 37 Warehouse Point Road, Wallingford, CT 09492. (203)284-3863. www.cobraautomotive.com.
