Project Generation Gap's Paint Becomes Perfect

Wet sanding isn't for the queasy, but we have a pro helping us. Check out today's blog for more on our project update.

Now that we've had the fastback painted for a couple of weeks we were able to schedule a little time with good friend and knowledgable body guy Alan Colding. Alan's got a sweet Acapulco Blue '68 fastback of his own and knows his way around a paint booth, including before paint prep and after paint final cut and buff routine. He came by the house over the weekend and got started on our fastback with some 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper and started smoothing down the orange peel we had in our clear (common with unbaked paint surfaces when you don't have a heated paint booth with forced air drying).

Project Generation Gap Wet Sanding Left Rear Quarter Panel

Alan went over the car, starting at the roof and working his way down. He's been coming by the house each night after work and tackling another panel or section of the project. Plans are to buff the surface out this coming Saturday and then we'll have a show winning finish ready to start final assembly with, including our upcoming flush glass install and more. Stay tuned!
