Finding Room to Work On Your Projects? Try a Shed!
Today's blog deals with the typical car guy problem of simply not having enough room to work. You can relate right? Read on for more.
While far from an episode of Hoarders, the typical car guy does collect a LOT of stuff. From spare parts to "I'm going to fix that someday" to even storing those shiny new parts until having the time to install them. Compound the issue with having actual cars in your garage and the work area diminishes fast!
This was the scenario we found ourselves in and finally had enough. After building our '66 Mustang nearly 10 years ago it shared the garage with a few bicycles and the lawn mower. We had nearly half a garage to work in if needed (the wife's Explorer was just too big to fit easily). Then came our Factory Five Cobra replica in 2006, which was finished in mid '08. Not only did we build the car in the second half of the two car garage, but now that's where the Roadster is stored along with the classic Mustang. So the lawnmower got put on the back porch, the bicycles got hung up (and are never used since you can't get to them easily) and anytime we needed to work on something it ended up being on top of the Mustang's hood (well padded mind you, but a pain) or the kitchen table. And you know how popular that gets when Mom needs her space to make dinner, hem some pants, or clip coupons. Nothing like having your dirty R/C monster truck in pieces all over the table and hearing "dinner will be ready in 10 minutes" or worse, one of the darn cats gets up on the table and starts pawing at your loose fasteners!

So, like we said, enough was enough and we ordered a 10x16 wood/metal storage building. This is going to be my "mini" man-cave where I can work on my R/C cars, rebuild a carburetor or maintain the lawn equipment in solitude. Plans are to insulate and drywall it and add a small "window" A/C unit in the back wall. Hang a few Ford banners, add some tunes, a laptop with wireless connection to the house, and a small fridge and you might just not see me all day! Of course, if I don't finish the job I can simply lock the door and leave it all on the workbench until I can get back to it. It may not be a big three car workshop, but it's all mine!
