The Mothers® big rig can also be seen on SPEED Channel's coverage of the January, 2010 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, as well as the upcoming Palm Beach, Orange County and Las Vegas auctions in April, June and September, respectively. SPEED Channel viewers can enjoy "Mothers® Time To Shine" demonstrations, while attendees are welcome to stop by the big rig and visit with our knowledgeable staff.
Mothers® Big Rig Background
The Mothers® big rig is about more than just rolling down the highways. It's got to look good in the process. For exterior styling, the guys at Mothers® turned to their friend Chip Foose of Foose Design in Huntington Beach, California, to render the graphic layout. Mitch Kelly of Kelly and Sons Crazy Paints in Bellflower, California have brought Foose's unique vision to life.
Like the products it was made to represent, the Mothers® big rig is cut from only the finest stock. Led by a Peterbilt Model 387 and linked to a Featherlite trailer brought to a shine with FX SynWax®, this heavy hauler is powered by a Cummins ISX diesel engine that generates 525 horsepower at 1700 rpm, and 1650 ft-lbs of torque at 1200 rpm. Delivering this awesome power to the wheels is a Fuller 10-speed Ultrashift automatic transmission. Rubber is mounted on Alcoa polished aluminum wheels and brightened to a mirror-like shine with Mothers® Billet Metal Polish on a PowerCone®.
Inside, the Mothers® moving command vehicle plays host to a complete media center and lounge where passengers can enjoy satellite TV and a comprehensive Sony audio/video system with Kicker speakers. When it comes to cargo, an 18-foot movable lift and rear lift gate allow storage of up to four Mothers® show vehicles.
Mothers® Motorsports Rig
A sister ship to the Mothers® big rig is configured primarily for race support. Affectionately known as "PJ" ("Peterbuilt Jr."), it spends much of the season transporting the Mothers®-sponsored Robert Davis Racing (RDR) team's RX-8s to National Auto Sports Association (NASA) series events, where it fields six cars in the Performance Touring (PT) class. Driving in Performance Touring C (PTC) is Dennis Holloway of Mothers®, and Scott Shelton of ABC Television. Robert Davis of Mazda, reigning 2009 PTD National Champion, and Lee Papageorge of Mattel, are competing in PTD. Jim Holloway of Mothers®, a 2009 NASA National Champion, is competing in PTB, the fastest class of the team.
