2009 Mustang Challenge Media Car to be auctioned to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
We've been lucky enough to ride shotgun in this Mustang with Dorsey Schroeder at Road Atlanta and we had a great time! Read all about the auction in our blog today.
A very special Mustang FR500S will be crossing the auction block at the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, January 18-24 (lot number 1027). SPX Corporation has generously donated car number 56 (of the 75 built) to be auctioned off to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The FR500S is the first race car built by Ford Motor Company on a production line intended for sale to the public. Capaldi Racing campaigned the car for Ford Racing as the media car for the 2009 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge season. Members of the media rode in and raced this car during the ten-race season.
SPX purchased the FR500S in early June planning to auction it off to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “SPX has been fantastic to work with,” said Mickey Matus, Marketing Manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. “Their efforts in promoting St. Jude and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series have been outstanding, and we’re proud to be associated with them and their support of the children at St. Jude.” SPX allowed the series to continue featuring the car as the media car for the remaining four races of the season. In addition, SPX and Ford used the car for consumer hot laps at the Mid-America Shelby Meet in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Kohler International Challenge Vintage Race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
SPX’s commitment to promoting support of St. Jude surfaced again when they offered Gary Bennett, Vice President of Consignment for Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, the chance to race the car in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge season finale at Miller Motorsports Park to raise awareness for the auction. Capaldi Racing was on hand to make sure the car was ready and to provide trackside support and coaching to ensure that Bennett’s experience was the success it was. “As a car guy, racer and Ford lover, it just doesn’t get any better than that! Thanks to SPX, Ford, and Capaldi Racing I was allowed the opportunity to create a special memory for the rest of my life,” remarked Bennett after his race.
