The Latest on Project Generation Gap
The driveline upgrades continue with a Strange Engineering 9-inch
For those following the progress of our new in-house '68 Mustang build up, you're well aware that we're using the Heidt's (www.heidts.com) four-link rear suspension setup, which requires specific brackets to be welded to the axle housing. While our project Mustang did come with a 9-inch rear when purchased, it was from a non-Mustang application and way too wide. By the time we added up the cost of narrowing the housing, adding a decent differential, fresh gears and bearings, and 31-spline axles, it wasn't much deeper into the wallet to order up a nice new (and clean) custom built assembly from Strange Engineering (www.strangeengineering.net).

The guys at Strange put together one of their base sheetmetal housings with their S-series center section, 3.50 gears, limited-slip differential, and a 31-spline S/S street axle package. The rear showed up yesterday here at the shop and we hope to get the SSBC (www.ssbrakes.com) disc brakes and Heidt's suspension mocked up on it and the whole assembly test fit into the '68 so that we can measure for wheels. Now we just need our transmission to show up so we can weld in the motor mounts. Stay tuned!
