Aeromotive’s Cobra Jet Dragster Makes Its Debut In Topeka, Kansas

Using the new FR500CJ supercharged 5.4L modular for power the dragster has already run into the 8-second zone. Check out the blog for more details.

Aeromotive Fuel Systems and Ford Racing have teamed up to build the first Ford Modular Powered Dragster. And last weekend at the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka Kansas, Aeromotive unveiled their new rail, coined the “Cobra Jet Dragster”

Aeromotive Cobra Jet Dragster Engine

The dragster features a 5.4L Cobra Jet engine from Ford Racing and the first ever Aeromotive Stealth Fuel System built for a dragster. The fuel system boasts an “in-tank” Aeromotive Eliminator Fuel Pump, a Pro-Series Fuel Pressure Regulator (P/N 13110) and Aeromotive Fuel Rails for the Ford 5.4L (P/N 14144). In addition, the dragster carried a power glide transmission and zoomies for sweet look of modern muscle and retro speed.

Aeromotive’s Cobra Jet Dragster competed in NHRA Super Comp. This class features an 8.90 E.T. index. “We are fully aware of the potential of these engines and had no doubt that it would be fast enough, the question was really whether or not we could be competitive right out of the box without any testing and no time to really dial the car in,” said Steve Matusek, Aeromotive President.

Aeromotive Cobra Jet Dragster ET and MPH

With its first ever trip down the track, the CJ Dragster went a 9.60 E.T. at 152 MPH. After a couple more qualifying runs, Matusek drove the car to a second round elimination by just one one-thousandth. Its best time and mile per hour, 8.899 E.T. at 154.95 MPH. “I think we did exactly what we thought these engines could do. Go out and be competitive right out of the shoot with crate engine. A supercharged, EFI engine none-the-less,” Matusek said. “We plan to campaign this car in NHRA Super Comp for the majority of this season. Who knows, maybe we’ll try our hand at Top Dragster.”

The Aeromotive Cobra Jet Dragster comes in on the coattails of the wildly popular Aeromotive Twin Turbo Mustang powered by none other than a Ford 5.4L Modular Engine and soon to followed by the new Aeromotive Cobra Jet set to debut later this year.
