Editor Houlahan Gets To Have Some Fun at Carlisle All-Ford Nats Thanks to Ford Racing
Yup, it's not always all work and no play around here, check out the blog for more info...
So I'm talking to a car owner about photographing their car for the magazine when the old Crackberry vibrates in my pocket. I know it's not an email, as my inbox had exceeded its size limits about two hours prior (thanks IT department). So I answer the phone and it's one of our good friends from Ford Racing, Joe King.
"How'd you like to do a burnout for us in the burnout contest?" he asked.
"But I only have a Taurus rental car" (not that we haven't used one before!)
"No" says Joe, "you can use the 2010 GT500 NASCAR Pace Car we have on display"
OK, twist my arm fellas! With 540 horses and a strobing light bar I knew it would be a great show. With a short intro from Performance Car Group Manager Fritz Wilke to pump the crowd, I came around the corner reving the engine and light bar a flashing. To say the crowd went wild is an understatement. With the only order being to not pop the tires (what many burnout contestants aim for) since Ford Racing didn't have any 19-inch spares, I was free to burn up as much tire as I felt comfortable with.
Of course, being the one doing the burnout I have no photos or videos, but you can find the action on the Net already in several places, and I'm sure Ford Racing will have something up on their site soon (www.fordracingparts.com).
