Project Generation Gap Moves Forward With Engine/Trans Fit Test
We're working on our project car this week and fitting the engine and trans to the car. Lots of uncharted territory here! Read the blog for more.
Now that we have our transmission in house we took a little time this week to marry the engine and trans and test fit it to our Heidt's Mustang II equipped '68 fastback project. The engine and trans hanging from the engine hoist certainly looks huge, well, that's because it is! The trans is BIG, the engine is BIG, and you need a whole lot of room to fit this stuff in.

Getting the engine down in the hole was a forty minute dance of angling the engine, raising the car with the lift, several sets of hands, and so forth until it was in place. The firewall bore the brunt of the install with a few scrapes and a decent dent where the heater hoses would normally exit. We'll most likely trim back some of the firewall for clearance and we may even need to raise the top of the trans tunnel a bit too to get the driveline angle correct. Hopefully the engine mount kit will be installed/welded today and then then body can be trailered over to Classic Creations of Central Florida (www.classiccreationsfl.com) where they'll take over all of the body work, fiberglass upgrades, and final paint. Stay tuned for more...
