One More Piece of the Puzzle
Project Generation Gap scores some S197 Mustang seats. Check our blog for the details on the who, why, and where of it all...
While things are getting close in the paint and body department (the shop has inspected the project and we expect to deliver it and all of our body parts/fiberglass in the next few weeks), we're still figuring out some of the project's sub-systems. We knew right off that we wanted a supportive high-back seating arrangement for safety, as well as driver comfort. The high-back seats would also work well with our planned three-point seatbelt conversion.
We know a lot of performance shops yank the S197 Mustang seats out for aftermarket seats or for fixed back race seats when building track cars. So we put the word out we were looking for some cheap seats (could have been cloth, torn, etc.) but we did want the driver's side power seat track.
Our friends Justin Burcham and Tommy Godfrey at Justin's Performance Center (www.jpcracing.com) came through with a full set of black leather seats (front and rear!) for our project. The leather has some abrasion wear and dirt, but we'll be recovering them with some great two-tone covers from TMI Products, so not to worry. We're not sure if the rear seat, including the split fold down, will work in our '68 fastback conversion just yet, but we're going to give it a try anyway.
So to the guys at JPC, thanks a million for the help, and stay tuned for more updates on the project both in the magazine and right here on our web site.
