Fastback Conversion-Day 2

Moving forward, Editor Houlahan updates everyone on our '68 Mustang fastback conversion.

Well, Day 2 is a wrap and we spent another 14 hours in the shop today. While the progress didn't "look" as impressive as yesterday's tear down and metal replacement start, today was a lot of grinding, finding small holes to patch, and so forth.

What was left of our shell (firewall, cowl, floor, rockers, trunk floor) were reinforced with scrap tubing to keep our alignment and fitment work from flexing and then it was rolled down the street (literally!) to Drake's media blaster. For now only a few areas are blasted; mainly areas that will be covered by new metal and can't be reached later when the shell is all welded together...

Fastback Roof Skin and Quarter Panels

Late in the day the new Dynacorn fastback roof skin and quarters were test fit and clamped/screwed together. It's already looking like a fastback and hopefully Day 3 will bring final welding and prep for the full media blasting. Then it will be time to move on to the Heidts Superride II crossmember install and the rest of the metal forward of the firewall. Stay tuned for more!
