Yes, it's actually cold in Florida this week. Editor Houlahan vents about driving his 18 year old Fox Mustang to work today in his blog. Check it out...
Let me start by saying don't feel sorry for me. Part of the reason I'm about to write this blog is because I don't have the time to fix my Mustang, and the other part is I'm not looking forward to tearing apart half my interior either. Oh, and the $800 or so to buy all the parts isn't encouraging me to get off my butt either!
So my poor Fox Mustang is getting a little long in the tooth. You'd never know I had two really nice "toys" in the garage by looking at how my '90 5.0L Mustang looks going down the road today. With a recent quarter panel dent thanks to my mother in law (I'll save that for another blog), faded paint, oil leaks, and non-functioning heat and A/C (going on four years now without "conditioned air" here in F-L-A!), it's a poor site.
I remember ordering my Mustang from the dealer and taking delivery of my first new car, but over the years the miles, project car part swaps, engine and trans builds, and so forth have taken a toll on her. While everything on the car works (windows, locks, cruise, gauges, stereo, etc.) the one thing that really takes away from the daily driving comfort is working air conditioning. I've been telling myself I need to fix it for years but never seem to get around to it. Last year my heater core sprung a leak and I bypassed it at the firewall. Everyone said "no big deal, you only need heat three days out of the year here in Florida". Well , those people apparently have never gotten into an 18 year old car with air leaks through the doors and firewall when it's but 32 friggin' degrees outside AND have a nasty chest cold. Yup, as you can see by the blog image at the top I was positively HATING life this morning as I drove to work with my bulky ski jacket, gloves, and a knit cap on my balding head, hacking up lung parts all the way to the office thanks to the cold I picked up from my wife and daughter (how my son never gets sick I'll never know).
So, you great readers will read it here first! As soon as spring comes this old Mustang of mine is getting the dash yanked out and I'm replacing everything! Evaporator, heater core, all hoses, condenser, compressor, etc. I don't care if I have to drive the '66 Mustang to work for a few days. I WILL have A/C for the coming summer (and heat for next winter!)...
