Mustangs in movies are nothing new, but what have you seen lately? Editor Houlahan discusses his latest Mustang movie in the blog. Check it out.
So the wife and I are wrapping up dinner last night and she blurts out "Cherry 2000 is coming on in a few minutes, you want to watch it?". I shrugged my shoulders and said "we've seen it before, but it's up to you" and she retorted with "but it has a Mustang in it so I thought you'd want to watch it". Well, she has me there! So we sat down and watched one of Melanie Griffith's not so great roles in a not so great movie, but man, there sure was a Mustang in it.
The red hardtop is supposed to be a '65 (it has a '65 grille minus the spears and '65 quarter ornaments), but I could have sworn it had a '66 gas cap and in one shot, where it's being hung from a crane cable, I also swear I saw a '66 style quarter ornament. Of course they could have used more than one car for filming too and it was 1987, when the '65 mustang was just another 20 year old used car.
The Mustang does make the movie, as the acting is merely OK, and the plot is lame. But hey, a hot looking lady driving a cool classic Mustang (the movie is supposedly set in the future) and brandishing everything from an automatic pistol to shoulder fired rocket system is OK in my book! Comedy, action, bad acting, and a couple of cool cars-can you say B-movie classic! I'll have to add the DVD to my collection someday.
If you get a chance to see it, just once, you really should. And if you've never heard of the movie you can check out the entry on Cherry 2000 at the Internet Movie Database here: www.imdb.com/title/tt0092746/
Of note is an appearance by a young Laurence Fishburn too!
Special thanks to the Internet Movie Car Database (www.imcdb.org) where we found the screen capture of the '65 Mustang after bashing through a flaming road barrier.
So what Mustang movie have you seen lately?
