The fine folks at 281 Motorsports shared this report with us of Chad McQueen coming out to the 1st Annual West Coast Bullitt Nationals. He even brought his '01 and '08 Bullitt Mustangs (both car number #0001) for display at the show. Read the full show details in our blog below.

On Sunday October 5th, Beach Cities Mustang Club hosted their twelfth annual “Mustangs at the Queen Mary” with record breaking numbers.  Jon Shultz, BCMC Club President and Founder contacted Chad McQueen to secure his interest in coming to the event to sign autographs at the “1st Annual West Coast Bullitt Nationals” in conjunction with the IMBOC or otherwise the “International Mustang Bullitt Owners Club”.  Mr. McQueen requested that his appearance fee be donated to the Boy Republic, an at risk youth program his father Steve McQueen supported for many years.

Chad arrived at the booth and the lined that formed seemed to go for miles.  Young and Old lined up to meet and take pictures with the famous Chad McQueen.  People brought everything from pictures to diecast cars and even half of a dash to have Chad autograph it.  Everyone had to get there picture with the star of the show.  The crowd lasted hours as people reminisced with the actor/racecar driver.

Beach Cities Mustang Club made a generous donation of $1,000 to the Boy’s Republic on behalf of Chad McQueen.  281 Motorsports came up with a last minute idea to raise additional money.  We asked Chad if he would sign owners dashes in lieu of a donation to his charity, the crowd went wild over this once in a lifetime opportunity!   We were able to raise an additional $600 the day of the show for a total of a $1600 donation!

In addition to Chad’s appearance, Chad offered the use of his 2001 Bullitt Mustang #0001 and his 2008 Bullitt Mustang #0001 for our display at the QM12 show.  Unique Transport Service of Yorba Linda offered to make the journey up to Mr. McQueen’s beach home in the Malibu area.  Terry from UTS says, “I waited at the gate for Chad to bring his car down to the transporter and then all of the sudden all I heard was a lour roar and smoke trail in the air as Chad slid the car down the driveway and up onto the trailer, he can sure drive”!

In closing, what a honor it was to meet and hang out with such a down to earth legend!  My hats off to you Mr. McQueen!
