It's a life long addiction

Stop. Think for a minute. Why on earth do you spend countless hours on evenings and weekends wrenching and playing with cars? What is that keeps us bound to our hobby? Readthe blog to see what we mean.

As human beings, we are by nature a fickle lot. Many of us get bored easily - we're always looking for the next fun thing to do, the next trend. Just ask anybody trying to sell a product these days and they will tell you that the modern day customer is fickle, demanding and quite often a real pain in the backside. The end user wants something and they want it yesterday. When it comes to buying everyday goods, food, household items etc I count myself as guilty as anybody.

Having said that, when it comes to hobbies, it's a whole 'nother realm. When I break a tool, it's frustrating, but having used Craftsman since arriving in North America I just go back to Sears and get another one - it feels like Christmas every time I do. When I ordered two taillight lenses for my Mustang and got two right side units, (in different colors I might add), I could have phone up the supplying company's toll free line and moaned - but I didn't. Instead I ordered a left side one, flogged the spare at the local swap meet and was excited as a six-year old when the time came to install both lenses on the car. Every time I cut a finger, gashed my arm or dropped something on my toe that was car related, I for some reason have managed to accept it as part of the course. If it was a washing machine, I'd have been complaining about it for weeks. Therefore I have concluded that I am absolutely in love with cars. Despite having been stranded on the side of the road - sometimes in the worst weather conditions, a couple of accidents and countless near misses, my bond with automotive machinery remains as strong as ever.

I've tried to break away a few times in the past, but I can't. Although they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, in my case it just makes me miserable - like a hardcore smoker trying to go cold turkey. So after again taking a brief hiatus from messing about with my cars I have decided, that come Labor day, I'll be jumping back into the whole hog. Whether I like it or not, I'm hopelessly addicted - though in all honesty I rather like it.
