Ford Dealer Paints Parnelli Jones Saleen to Boost Sales Interest
Good idea or bad? Read the blog and tell us what you think!
We were recently tipped off by one of our henchman in So-Cal that Ken Grody Ford (boy they must have been the butt of '80s Valley Girl speak) felt that their limited production '07 Parnelli Jones Saleen Mustang, which are all painted Grabber Orange, with Boss-esque stripes, would sell faster if it was painted black.
Off to the dealer's body shop for a fresh coat of black (we're not sure if the side stripes survived but you can see the hood stripe is still there around the functional shaker) and then to a local trim shop where the orange seat inserts that matched the paint were removed and replaced with black leather while all of the orange seat stitching was replaced with black as well. Now, $5,995 MORE expensive-listed as "Limited Edition Custom Paint & Interior (yeah, REAL limited!) the car still sits on their lot over a year later.
So, did they ruin the value of this PJ Saleen S302 or did they just make it the rarest one on the planet? Will whoever owns it 20 years from now tout it as the only black PJ Saleen built (not knowing that the dealer did the paint mods and not Saleen)...
Hmm, stranger things have happened within the classic Mustang ranks! What do you think?
By the way, here's a link to the Saleen PJ page where you can see what the car SHOULD look like!
