While our print readers will not see the final story on our Factory Five build up for another month we've actually been done with the project (well, almost done, a few little items left to tinker with) for about three weeks now. We recently had the opportunity to dodge the typical afternoon rain showers here in Florida to hit a local cruise-in on a Friday night. Yup, this work-a-holic cut out of work a little early to make the show. Can you believe it?
Anyway, it was the first time the wife and I had driven the project for any length. Short runs through the neighborhood and one three mile drive to calibrate the speedometer was all we had on the clock. No worries, I have confidence in my build skills. We packed the trunk with a pair of chairs, some detailing products, and our CoverCraft Weathershield HP cover (in case those nasty rains came back) and headed to the south end of town. All told it was a 30 mile round trip and the Roadster ran like a swiss watch. We got a ton of horn honks, thumbs ups, and waves on the drive, but was really surprising was a spectator at the cruise-in walking by and recognizing the car as our magazine project. A nice conversation ensued, and that's what getting out and driving your Ford is all about!
