We’ve been fans of Michael Irvine’s art for many years. To this day we still have his Mustang coaster set, with images of some of the coolest Mustangs ever built, on our table in the den for guests to use. The details in Michael’s artwork are amazing and you can find yourself just staring into the print for hours finding all the details, reflections, and so forth.
Recently, while taking in the vendor area of the Carlisle All-Ford show we stopped by to see Michael and his lovely wife Linda for our annual chat and to see what’s new. When Ford released the ’01 Bullitt Mustang Michael was inspired to create a piece of art around it, and with the new ’08 Bullitt Mustang out now Michael once again felt that excitement for the 40 year old movie and its infamous chase scene.
Michael latest painting, ‘The Chase Lives On.’ captures the high energy, high adrenaline feeling of that chase, Michael places you in the heat of the action as all three Bullitts come flying over the hill in hot pursuit. Reflected in the front bumpers of the 2001 and 2008 Bullitts, the Assassin’s Charger is just ahead!
“Whenever I see a green '67 or '68 Mustang fastback, I immediately, and without thinking, conjure up images of Lt. Frank Bullitt piloting his Mustang down the streets of San Francisco in pursuit of the menacing 1968 Charger. I can't help it. It just happens!” Michael told us.
“A couple of years ago, we were in California for the Fabulous Fords Show and took a detour to San Francisco for a few days. We rented a Mustang and drove the movie route. My wife took photos from the sidewalk, while I drove and the kids yelled ‘get some air dad!’ It was great. I was able to use some of those pictures as reference when painting ‘The Chase Live On.’”—Michael Irvine
