Small-Block Ford

We're building a small-block Ford project on a budget for an upcoming Father/Son project car build and we're giving Web site visitors an inside look.

The engine we're using was mentioned in my Oval Office a few months back and we've been slowly building it up at home nights and weekends. I offer encouragement and technical advice (and take all the pictures) while my son does the heavy lifting and learns all about how engines work. I feel that if he's involved in the whole car project that when the car is done he'll take better care of it, know how to fix it himself, and will have more respect for the car and be a better driver.

The engine is a '90 302 (5.0 HO roller) from my daily driver (which now sports a 347 stroker). With a hyperutectic piston rebuild kit from Summit, a clean up of the heads, reusing the fasteners, and more, we're right at $2,000 for the build. We still need an oil pan and I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for some low buck EFI donor parts. Read all about the build in an upcoming issue and feel free to post questions here on parts specifics, and more. Got to keep the hobby alive, so go teach a young owner. Be a mentor!
