FRPP Invitational License Plate

Check out more pictures from this past year’s first annual Ford Racing Performance Parts Invitational that we were proud to be a part of!

Regular subscribers will remember the sidebar in our Milan, MI NMRA event coverage where I espoused over being a competitor in the first annual Ford Racing Performance Parts Invitational. For those just tuning in, the FRPP Invitational event ran within the NMRA event and pitted fellow journalists against each other in a gaggle of FRPP equipped Mustangs, F-150s, and even a pair of Factory Five Racing Cobra replicas (of which I drew one as my own ride). It was a great way for FRPP to get the media to touch and feel their product line first hand, both with their hands and their rear ends.

I know we had a limited amount of room in the magazine to give everyone a feel for the event and I’ve wanted to share more pictures with everyone. I finally found the DVD full of images (I could loose my keyboard on the mess I call a desk) and grabbed a few to blog about here on the Mustang & Fords Web site. So check them out, and if you want to see more, just say the word and I’ll post up some pics. I hope FRPP has another invitational next year, because there’s a certain editor from a sister magazine of ours that I need to show how to wait until the light turns green before hitting the gas! LOL!

FRPP Invitational Cars

All lined up and ready for action. These S197 Mustangs (as well as the Cobras and F-150s) were waiting for us when we arrived Friday afternoon.

FRPP Invitational Award

The FRPP Invitational trophy was this great looking affair that FRPP put together.

FRPP Invitational Cobra

See what I mean Steve? Wait until the light turns GREEN!

Car Craft's F-150

John Gallagher, Publisher of our sister magazine Car Craft, took this supercharged F-150 all the way to the winner’s circle.

5.0 Mustang's Shelby GT500

There were a couple of the new Shelby GT500s in the FRPP group, but they had the disadvantage trying to put almost 600 horsepower to the ground on the stock radials!

FFR Cobra

I’ve never had my name on a car before. I hope it wasn’t too hard to remove Jim.

Hot Rod's Mustang

Bill McQuire, Hot Rod magazine’s Detroit editor piloted this bright orange S197 all weekend.

Factory Five Cobra at Speed

Not only was I thrilled to pilot the FRR Challenge car down the 1320, but I had the slight advantage of the car being mostly stock under the hood and having sticky road race tires on it too.

Factory Five Cobra

The calm before the storm. Here I am concentrating for my next run. Lot of good it did, I concentrated so hard I had to take a nap at the tree!

Hertz Mustang

The Hertz car was under the control of Michael Galimi from our sister book Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, and he made it to the next round while I watched the rest of the racing from the sidelines.

F-150 Final Round

The finals came down to two supercharged F-150s. The automatics certainly helped for bracket racing and we’re all in agreement that next year will be all manual or all automatics.
